I am home from our short trip to Scotland. As some of you may know I started driving last year and passed my test at the end of March. On Sunday I made my first ever motorway journey from Somerset all the way to Stirling in Scotland! (And back again on Tuesday). I took two breaks each way and although it was tiring it was not terrible. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/august2026/ Tue, 11 Aug 2026 18:10:22 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/august2026/ Hi all, sorry it has been a long time since an official update. I have been streaming a music show on Tuesdays since the start of the year but I need to take a small break. I am very tired with IRL stuff and right now me and my step-dad are about to move to new homes. This is a good thing in the long term but very stressful and busy at the moment as I have to deal with 3 sides of the administration and the moving logistics and the utilities and so forth, including the rented places we are both leaving. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/february2025/ Mon, 10 Feb 2025 20:03:29 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/february2025/ Hi Team As many of you already know, my mother passed away on January the 28th. I have not been doing any live streams since then but I will return. The only output has been limited videos on the peertube channels. I will keep doing a few videos for now and eventually I will return to live streaming as well. I hope you will all please bear with me while I deal with the grieving and the administration (of which there is a lot). https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/january_8_2025/ Wed, 08 Jan 2025 11:43:35 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/january_8_2025/ The Cultural Exchage - postponed Hi Team. Sorry but IRL is overwhelming me a bit so I have had to postpone the stream for now. Apologies to you all, especially The Brutha Voodoo. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/january_5_2025/ Sun, 05 Jan 2025 21:53:18 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/january_5_2025/ Hello, Team! Happy new arbitrary temporal numerical label to you all! Monday night music is with you this week, IRL is still very taxing at the moment so I won’t promise anything for Tuesday though. Since the first Wednesday of the month was the 1st / New Year’s Day - Brutha Voodoo and I decided to postpone The Cultural Exchange until this week so that is coming at you. There will be a lot of Doctor Who again as well as a rundown of things we have been watching / reading / playing over the last 6 weeks or so since we were with you. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/november_18_2024/ Sun, 17 Nov 2024 19:43:42 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/november_18_2024/ Hello, Team! This week, the usual Monday night radio show and more Deus Ex: Revision on Wednesday. Tuesday night we will be exploring both of the Atari ST computers in more detail as I now have a USB floppy drive and some disks. I will be able to format the disks and copy some system testing and information programs over. What secrets will we uncover? Don’t forget to check the PeerTube (link below) for streams you may have missed and for podcasts and videos released in the last few weeks, we have been very busy! https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/october28_2024/ Sun, 27 Oct 2024 20:23:54 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/october28_2024/ Hello, Team! This week, the usual Monday night radio show and more Deus Ex: Revision on Wednesday. Last Tuesday we took a look at the Atari 520STfm and we discovered a nice surprise of a RAM upgrade board. I decided that although it was working that it might be a good idea to replace the capacitors and I also need to get some floppy disks and a USB floppy drive. Since those things will take time and watching me clean the plastic casing would be rather dull, I have decided that this week we will open up the other Atari ST - the 520 STe. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/october21_2024/ Sat, 19 Oct 2024 11:33:51 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/october21_2024/ Hello, Team! This week - as well as the usual Monday night radio show we will be taking stock of some of the “projects” that are ahead of us and making some sort of plan for a few of them. Wednesday will be some gaming again - this time I am going to be playing Deus Ex: Revision. Don’t forget to check the PeerTube (link below) for streams you may have missed and for podcasts released in the last week! https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/october072024/ Mon, 07 Oct 2024 11:24:29 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/october072024/ TL;DR - Skip to the bottom for the schedule for this week It’s been a while since I did an update and I can only apologise for that. Real Life™ has been rather harsh for several months and I have been flapping around while I deal with family illness, personal heartbreak, mental and physical health issues and general detachment from life. I have been streaming and making videos throughout this time but not as frequently, consistently, regularly or of as high quality as I would like. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/requests_double_june/ Mon, 03 Jun 2024 13:17:25 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/requests_double_june/ It went very well in May so for June we have two requests nights in a row, every Monday and Tuesday! Come along and listen, maybe even make a few requests. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/tt_6_june_2024/ Mon, 03 Jun 2024 13:11:25 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/tt_6_june_2024/ Household Items Tracks about things you would find around the home. So every Monday and Tuesday in May is a Music Requests night! https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/themethursday2may_2024/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 10:21:45 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/themethursday2may_2024/ Rebellions, Revolutions and Uprisings - Tales of civil disobedience, nefarious plots, evil usurpers and heroic freedom fighters as well as a dash of youthful rebellion and generational politics! https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/may_2024/ Sun, 28 Apr 2024 22:00:12 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/may_2024/ Due to some In Real Life things happening, there will be no The Cultural Exchange this month but this is a great opportunity to catch up on the first four episodes over on the (PeerTube)[https://video.thepolarbear.co.uk/c/cultex/videos?s=1] channel! Monday requests and Theme Thursdays are running as normal throughout May but there will likely be very few Wednesday shows. If a Wednesday isn’t announced here on the website there is not likely to be a show on. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/theme_18_april_2024/ Thu, 11 Apr 2024 21:02:22 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/theme_18_april_2024/ Cooking and Baking songs about the fine art of preparing edible goodies! https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/tuesday_9_april_2024/ Mon, 08 Apr 2024 21:13:31 +0100 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/tuesday_9_april_2024/ Tuesdays in the rest of April will be Hamish choice music shows. More Wesnoth this month! Chris and I were having a discussion after the match this week and we have decided to play again already. We are going to try something a little different for the next time and have smaller, more intense maps and battles, probably leading to multiple games in the same session. We are also hoping for the return of Lucy too, so three-way, intense fantasy battles could be coming your way very soon! https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/feb15theme/ Fri, 09 Feb 2024 09:03:10 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/feb15theme/ Monsters, Beasts & Aliens Tracks about scary creatures from reality and beyond. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/febtt/ Sun, 04 Feb 2024 21:27:34 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/febtt/ This month I am going to chat to you on TableTop Tuesdays about role-playing games (RPGs). The entire month (four Tuesdays) will be dedicated to chatting about and answering any questions you may have about RPGs. No prior knowledge is needed as I will be explaining the basics of RPGs and then talking about three main archetypes, RPG “engines” and some popular game titles. This is not a review or a tutorial of any specific system(s) but I hope you will learn more about the ones I cover and perhaps be inspired to try this fascinating and rewarding hobby. https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/feb8theme/ Sun, 04 Feb 2024 13:54:38 +0000 https://thepolarbear.co.uk/news/feb8theme/ Hard Labour This week is songs about hard work! Here we are though in February in the space year two-thousand and twenty-four. Whatever else it means, it means a whole new month of shows from Hamish, including the exciting new show, The Cultural Exchange with The Brutha Voodoo. Monday remains, as always “Music Requests Monday”. Exactly as the name suggests this is a music show where I play tunes that you request (as long as they are in the collection - 59,000+ tracks at last count).
